Derashos haRan – Derashah #3, Chaburah #7 (end)

The Ran closes this derashah explaining how Torah and mitzvos raise us above the purely physical plane to make one more subject of Divine Law than of Natural Law. This is why the first mitzvah is Rosh Chodesh, mastery of time, and of the first Pesach and how the Qorban can save a home from Makkas Bekhoros. Also, how Divine Law in the large is more accessible than on the individual level. This is even why the Torah was given in the aftermath of the miraculous redemption from Egypt. Why it had to be Egypt, the experts in magic, so they could know it was truly miraculous. Why it had to be Moshe, with a speech impediment and not an orator. And why Aharon’s reward of Urim veTumim and behind the vehicle to this first mitzvah was measure-for-measure….

All so that we know that with the wisdom of the Torah comes an awareness of Maaseh Bereishis, the true Substance and Essence of Creation, and thus rising above the domain studied by science.
